Manor crush Cannock

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Aston Manor 155 all out
Cannock 52 all out

Despite having the worse of conditions at Church Road, Manor produced a brilliant performance in the field to gain a vital victory which moved them clear of the relegation places and hopefully leaves them looking at teams above them rather than over their shoulders at teams below them in the league.

With the match reduced to 50 overs Manor struggled after being asked to bat first on a difficult wicket. Although their application could not be faulted, a combination of fine bowling and disappointing umpiring decisions saw them in serious trouble having been reduced to 90-7. One thing that Manor do have in abundance is an excellent team spirit, and this was exemplified by a fighting an determined partnership between Andrew Forman (33) and Arfan Khan (25) which ensured that the hosts recovered to a competitive total of 155 all out.

If ever there was a perfect example of how to utilise swing and seam movement, it was provided by Manors experienced opening bowlers. Both Aurell Kirnon (15-4-20-3) and Arfan Khan (14-3-21-3) were superb and the visitors batsmen had no answer to their brilliance. Although umpiring decisions continued to infuriate the hosts, the pressure was maintained by spinner Armadeep Sonkar (7-4-6-1) before the pace of Julius Benjamin (5-4-1-3) destroyed the tail end and saw Manor through to an impressive and vital victory.
