Manor cruise to victory

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Worcester 181-9
Aston Manor 182-3
ASTON MANOR WON BY 7 WICKETS

In their last home game of the season Manor cruised to a comfortable victory to delight the large crowd at Church Road. Aston Manor are very fortunate to have such a dedicated supporter base, and their support is fully appreciated by all of the players throughout the Club. The finale of the season next week is at nearby Streetly and it is anticipated that once again the Church Road team will be backed by a very substantial and vocal following!

Worcester were never able to gain any momemtum in their innings against the accurate bowling and fine fielding of the hosts. Adam Breakspear was again extremely economical, but it was the impressive Imran Khan (4-32) who made substantial inroads into the visitors batting line up. Rahul Bakshi (1-21) and Kieran Carroll (1-35) kept the pressure on, but arguably Manor’s best bowler was yet again left arm spinner James Harris who finished with figures of 10-2-37-2 as the visitors were restricted to 181-9 from their 50 overs. James only joined the Club part way through the season but has already established himself as a vital cog in Manor’s bowling machine.

Groundsman Tom Allcock prepares excellent wickets at Aston Manor, and with this one being no exception, Worcester needed early wickets to have any chance of defending such a relatively low score. A magnificent second wicket partnership between Rahul Bakshi (100) and Adam Nevitt (61) ended any such hope as the hosts cruised to victory by seven wickets. Not for the first time this season the quality and class of Bakshi was evident for all to see, and it is also has certainly been mentioned before in recent weeks about the developing promise and talent of Nevitt. After several games in the 1st XI over the last three seasons the yougster has now grown in confidence and the belief that he finally belongs in the team. His recent form has been exceptional and his progress gives great hope to others in the Club who are desperate to force themselves into this very fine and competitive side.
