Manor continue the promotion charge against Studley

Birmingham League Division Three
1st XI
Aston Manor 171 all out
Studley 122 all out

Another superb performance in the field saw Manor clinch a vital win against Studley at Church Road which keeps alive realistic hopes of an immediate return to Division Two. With three of the top five teams losing, Manor have strengthened their grip on second place and also moved to within four points of table topping Oswestry.

After being asked to bat first the hosts found conditions difficult and although Brinder Phaghura (26), Jason Smith (23) and Armadeep Sonkar (21) all looked in good form, no one was able to go on and provide the large score needed to give the platform for a big total. Not for the first time this season Manor were indebted to very useful runs from the lower order as a fine partnership between Aurell Kirnon (33) and Arfan Khan (18) saw them reach 171 all out with Studley’s Steve Rose claiming 5-53.

With a below par score to defend Manor had to start well and both Arfan Khan (15-6-24-1) and Aurell Kirnon (10-6-12-1) bowled superb tight lines and length with the new ball keeping the visitors under constant pressure. The bowlers were well supported in the field, and when Studley tried to accelerate their score they found young Brinder Phaghura (3-25) and Armadeep Sonkar (3-51) as equally impressive as the opening duo as they were dismissed 49 runs short of their target for 122.

A wonderful team spirit and togetherness has been harnessed during this exceptional run of results for Manor, and if they can maintain this spirit and their level of performance for the final two matches then a real party can begin in Perry Barr!
