Manor continue fine start

1st XI
Nuneaton 168 all out
Aston Manor 169-4
ASTON MANOR WON BY 6 WICKETS

Manor continued their encouraging start to the season with a solid all round performance and a comprehensive 6 wicket victory away at Nuneaton.

The hosts opted to bat first and soon regretted their decision predominantly due to another excellent opening spell of seam bowling from Aurell Kirnon (11-1-27-3). However, Kirnon had to leave the field with injury before completing his allocated overs, and Nuneaton took full advantage of his absence to rebuild their innings with opener Russell Rice carrying his bat for a patient 69no. Some fine late order hitting from Lee McNeil (33) saw Nuneaton reach 168 before being bowled out in the 50th over. Spinner Shaun Findlay (4-55) was again impressive with the ball, as was Manor’s all round effort in the field on a baking hot day.

Solid batting from Aussie Greg Connor (28) and Kamran Zaman (17) ensured that Manor had a sound platform for their reply, before an exhilarating partnership between Shaun Findlay (45) and Peter Evans (41) took Manor to the verge of victory before they were both dismissed in quick succession. Shozab Haider (15no) and George Findlay (9no) ensured that there were no late dramas as the visitors secured another important victory in their quest for an immediate return to the Birmingham League.
