Manor continue fine form

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Aston Manor 150 all out (53.5 overs)
Evesham 81 all out (38.4 overs)

Aston Manor continued to climb the League table after an ultimately comfortable victory away against struggling Evesham. It wasn’t all plain sailing though for the Perry Barr based team who again showed worrying batting frailties in their line-up. On a difficult wicket a promising partnership between Armadeep Sonkar (53) and Aafan Janjua (24) appeared to set up the visitors for a commanding score. Unfortunately when they were both dismissed within an over Manor collapsed from 80-1 to a disappointing 150 all out. Only Jake Lee with a determined unbeaten 32 was able to offer the necessary resistance against some fine bowling. Manor’s application could not be faulted, but there is a distinct lack of confidence amongst their batsmen at present.

However, Aston Manor in the field are a completely different proposition. Skipper Jason Furnell has nurtured a tremendous team spirit and togetherness amongst this group of players which has helped prove decisive in defending below par totals. Manor’s bowlers are also in superb form, and Saturday was no exception. Both Aurell Kirnon (10-2-15-1) and Arfan Khan (9-2-16-1) kept the Evesham top order batting in check with some quality tight bowling, before the pace of the excellent Julius Benjamin (9-1-17-4) and the spin of overseas professional Armadeep Sonkar (10-3-20-4) blitzed the Worcestershire side to 81 all out.
