Manor comfortably beaten by Penkridge

Birmingham League Division Three
1st XI
Penkridge 211-9 (50 overs)
Aston Manor 91 all out (21 overs)

A dismal batting performance saw Manor slump to defeat against a very good Penkridge side at the Colin Smith Memorial Ground in Church Road.Despite the poor weather causing a delayed start, the wicket was still in fine condition as the hosts performed admirably to restrict a strong batting line up to 211-9 from the allotted 50 overs. Opening bowler Arfan Khan (15-8-32-3) was excellent in his control and accuracy and with the other wickets coming from Amardeep Sonkar (2-34), Aurell Kirnon (2-82), Jason Smith (1-19) and Brinder Phagura (1-25) the hosts would have been satisfied with their performance in the field and confident of chasing down 212 to win.

Amardeep Sonkar (25) started the reply in imperious form before receiving one of several disappointing decisions. In the face of some superb bowling by Leaq Chisti (7-31) Manor failed to show adequate application as they seemed intent on trying to win the game within twenty overs rather than the fifty available! Oronde Bascombe hit a quick fire 27 and Arfan Khan 12, but no other player managed double figures as the host were skittled out on a good batting track in only 21 overs.

There is no question of the natural talent in this Manor squad, but unless some level of consistency can be found and maintained the possibility of a promotion campaign will be lost.
