Manor come just short against Olton

1st XI
Olton & NW 230-9
Aston Manor 220-8

An exciting drawn match at noisy Church Road ensured that Manor reached the half way stage of the season undefeated but trailing League leaders Bedworth by 7 points.

Of more concern to the Perry Barr based side is the potential long term injury to star bowler Aurell Kirnon, who after a two week rest, broke down again after only 7 overs. His bowling was sadly missed in arguably Manors worst performance with the ball this season as the visitors racked up an impressive 230-9 from their 50 overs. Arfan Khan (6-56) manfully tried his best to cover for the loss of Kirnon and young quick bowler George Findlay who was also carrying an injury. Khan was excellent throughout but Manor were unable to keep their usual pressure on the opposing batsmen and Marc Webb (62) and Phil Trilloe (57no) took full advantage with some fine controlled batting.

Manor’s reply got off to a solid but slow start built around the dependable Kameron Zaman (27). As Manor fell well behind the run rate a special innings was going to be required by someone to give the hosts a chance of victory. That someone was Peter Evans who batted superbly for his unbeaten 89 and whilst he was in partnership with the fluent Shaun Findlay (35) a Manor win seemed a distinct possibility. However, Kevin Crotty (4-71) kept on taking wickets at important times to keep the momentum in check and Manor ultimately had to settle for a draw despite the heroics from Evans.
