Manor Come Close Against Cannock

Birmingham League Division Two
Aston Manor 206 all out
Cannock 207-7
Cannock won by 3 wickets

After last weeks much improved batting performance, it was deja-vu as Manor again found themselves in serious trouble at 40-5 in the face of some impressive seam bowling from Staffordshires David Womble (5-45).

However, ex skipper Jason Furnell (51) rolled back the years to show great determination and application in supporting the excellent Kyle Schreuder (86) in a superb partnership of 127. Shreuder looked to be taking the game away from the visitors in an exhilarating innings before he received a most unfortunate decision and Manor had to settle for a below par score of 206. However, at 40-5 that total had seemed a distant hope!

Although Manor took a wicket in the first over, with the exception of Arfan Khan (2-46), the bowling lacked any penetration and at the drinks interval Cannock were cruising at 120-1 with Jake Lehman (72) and Liam Hickey (52) in total control. This all changed following some strong words at the break and the introduction of 15 year old Brinda Phagura (2-20) who again demonstrated his great potential with a fine spell of bowling. Darren Baker and Kyle Schreuder also picked up wickets but it was too little to late as Manor slipped to yet another defeat despite an encouraging performance.
