Manor cannot hold on against Fordhouses

Birmingham League Division Two
Fordhouses 271-7
Aston Manor 171 all out
Fordhouses win by 100 runs

Manor were unable to build on last weeks success and fell back into the relegation places with a sub standard performance away against fellow strugglers Fordhouses.

Manor did not have a lot of luck with the new ball, but apart from Arfan Khan (3-79) and Kyle Schreuder (2-71), the visitors bowling attack offered very little penetration and the hosts were able to comfortably build a well above par score of 271-7 from their allotted 55 overs.

Fordhouses batting was consistent rather than spectacular, but Manor are badly missing a strike bowler in the continued absence of Julius Benjamin. It was always going to be a difficult task for the Manor batsmen, but only the excellent Schreuder (90) showed the necessary application out of the top order. Poor shot selection left the South African stranded with the tail as the visitors capitulated to 76-6. At least the lower order batsmen, especially Mickey Bromall (22), showed the required grit and determination to support Schreuder and earn two batting points in defeat, and in fact came within 7 overs of salvaging a draw.

Next week Manor entertain top the table Ombersley at Church Road and a much improved performance will be required in all departments of the game.
