Manor brush Rugby aside

Warwickshire Premier League
1st XI
Rugby 137 all out
Aston Manor 141-2

With table topping Bedworth losing at third placed Olton, second placed Aston Manor took full advantage with an impressive all round performance to comprehensively defeat fifth placed Rugby.

The hosts opted to bat first on a baking hot day, but were frustrated by Manor’s experienced opening attack of Imran Khan (2-37) and Arfan Khan (2-41) who never allowed the batting side to build up any momentum during their innings. The star performer though for the visitors was young debutant Kieran Carroll (3-29) who bowled with great pace and aggression in a fine spell of seam bowling. With leg spinner Shaun Findlay (3-3) proving virtually unplayable to the lower order, Manor were able to dismiss their opponents for a well below par 137 in what appeared ideal conditions for batting.

Manor’s batsmen certainly had no problems with the surface as they chased down the required total for the loss of only two wickets. Manor’s reply was built around a steady and patient undefeated half century from Tom Caulfield (56no). George Findlay (20) gave him good support after the loss of an early wicket before Shaun Findlay blasted an impressive 51 not out from only 45 balls to see Manor through to a splendid and important win.
