Manor brush Blossomfield aside

Warwickshire Premier Division
1st XI
Solihull Blossomfield 186-9
Aston Manor 187-4
ASTON MANOR WON BY 6 WICKETS

Although Manor were far from their best they comfortably brushed aside Solihull Blossomfield to firmly cement their place at the top of the Warwickshire Premier League. The Perry Barr side are now 19 points clear of second placed Bedworth, who visit Church Road on Saturday in a crunch encounter which will go some way toward deciding which club gets the one promotion spot to the Birmingham League.

After asking the opposition to bat first Manor started in their usual aggressive and efficient way leaving the hosts in serious trouble at 125-7 on what looked a flat batting track. Unusually for them the visitors failed to make the most of their supremacy and some stubborn tail end resistance coupled with some lack lustre bowling saw Blossomfield recover to 186-9 from their 50 overs. Massod Iqbal (3-48) was the pick of the Manor bowlers, with Shaun Findlay (2-38), Arfan Khan (2-44) and Imran Khan (1-50) being the other wicket takers.

Manor were not made to pay for their lack of a ruthless streak though as they cruised to victory with more than 10 overs to spare. The mainstay of the innings was George Findlay who batted quite superbly for his 76 not out. The youngster was in excellent form and received impressive support from the dependable Kamran Zaman (41) and from the aggressive hitting of Peter Evans (30).

This was a very important win before the crucial encounter next week, but Manor will need to return to their best to beat Bedworth and take a giant step toward promotion.
