Manor blow Streetly away

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Aston Manor 168 all out
Streetly 84 all out
Aston Manor won by 84 runs

Aston Manor eased their relegation worries with a vital victory at Briar Avenue against local rivals Streetly.

Manor opted to bat first on a difficult green wicket, and despite some steady and determined batting from Hareesh Reddy (28), Mohammed Aquil (26) and Jake Lee (16) the visitors found themselves in real trouble at 110-9 in the face of some fine bowling from Johnny Baig (5-22). However, one of the most encouraging features of the season has been the great resilience shown by Manor’s lower order batsmen. On several occasions a substantial last wicket partnership has contributed in giving Manor a match winning total and yet again this proved to be the case. The ever reliable Michael Bromhall (13) gave great support to the impressive Arfan Khan (51no) as Manor recovered superbly before finally being bowled out in the last of their 55 overs for 168.

On a pitch favouring seam bowling such a total was always going to be a challenging target against Manors experienced and outstanding attack. So it proved, as the Streetly batsmen had no answer to the duo of Aurell Kirnon (17-5-37-3) and man of the match Arfan Khan (14-5-28-6). Both bowlers gave a master class of seam and swing bowling and were well supported by some fine catching, particularly from Armadeep Sonkar, who also claimed the other wicket as the hosts were ultimately dismissed for 84 to secure a much needed victory for the Perry Barr team.
