Manor back to winning ways against Pelsall

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Pelsall 218 all out
Aston Manor 220-5
ASTON MANOR WON BY 5 WICKETS

Last seasons Warwickshire League Champions, Aston Manor, moved to the top of Birmingham League Division Three with a splendid all round performance to defeat last seasons Staffordshire Champions Pelsall.

After winning the toss Manor skipper Jason Furnell asked to the hosts to have first use of what looked to be a fine batting track. However, Manor soon gained the upper hand due to some superb new ball bowling from Imran Khan (9-0-36-5) which left the hosts in disarray at 126-6. A very good partnership between South African Daniel Rossouw (88) and Alex Jones (51) saw Pelsall recover well but Manor’s bowling remained tight led by a particularly impressive spell from spinner Simon Mugava (10-0-30-2). Rahul Bakshi (2-41) and Shaun Findlay (1-59) grabbed the other wickets as the hosts were finally dismissed for 218, a total that would have pleased the Aston Manor Captain!

Pelsall required early wickets, but an excellent opening partnership between Rahul Bakshi (73) and Tom Caulfield (49) set the platform for Manor’s ultimate victory. Bakshi’s classical stroke play was well complemented by Caulfield and the pair showed a great ability to rotate the strike and keep the pressure on the home bowlers. George Findlay (22) kept up the positive approach and an unbeaten 39 from Shaun Findlay ensured Manor enjoyed an ultimately comfortable success.

After the disappointing performance the previous week, this was a perfect response and set the standard for what is required for the remainder of the season if a serious promotion push is to be maintained.
