Last ball victory against Water Orton

Water Orton 243 all out (50 overs)
Aston Manor 244-5 (50 overs)

Manor visited Water Orton in much better weather conditions and both sides produced a compelling match with the visitors scrambling an exciting victory of the last ball of the match.. The hosts elected to bat first and were soon struggling after an impressive spell of pace bowling by Julius Benjamin (4-24) on a slow unresponsive pitch. Water Orton’s middle order rallied well but they were reliant on a fine innings by tail ender Jason Basnett (51no) to set a challenging total of 243. Young spinner Nabeel Asghar (4-40) bowled with great control as the visitors could feel very satisfied with their efforts in the field. Abdul Rahim (1-32) and Adam Morris (1-41) were the other wicket takers.

The hosts overseas Australian professional Steve Ringim caused early problems for the visitors and when skipper Jason Furnell (22) was removed after an encouraging cameo Manor looked in some trouble at 65-2 from 18 overs. Throughout the early difficulties opener Jake Lee had looked very composed and solid and his partnership of 156 with Andrew Forman turned the game very much in the visitors favour. Lee oozed class throughout his knock, and once Forman had got over a nervous start he accelerated the scoring rate with some superb stroke play. Manor appeared to be coasting, but when Lee (84) and Forman (89) were dismissed in successive deliveries the pendulum swung back in the hosts favour. Aurell Kirnon hit a quick fire 16 before being run out in comical circumstances and it was left to Martin Weir and Adam Morris to scramble a single off the last ball to secure victory.
