Incredible hitting by young Joe
Birmingham League 20/20 Knockout
Walmley 194-7 (20 overs)
Aston Manor 166-4 (15.1 overs)
ASTON MANOR WON BY 6 WICKETS (D/L)
Aston Manor set up an away fixture with Kenilworth Wardens following an impressive win against Premier League Walmley at Church Road.
Despite some fine bowling from Byron Wyngard (3-24) the visitors posted a daunting 194-7 from their 20 overs on the back of some classy batting from Tom Burton (75) and explosive hitting by Jonathan Newis (51no).
Rain reduced Manor’s innings to 17 overs with a Duckworth Lewis target of 165. Wyngard (36) held Manor’s innings together before some incredible hitting by youngster Joe Griffiths (70no) saw Manor to victory with 11 balls still remaining. 17 year old Griffiths, who has yet to make his 1st XI debut in the League, smashed six 4s and five 6s in 38 balls in a wonderful display of controlled aggressive stroke play. That 1st XI League debut will not be very far away on this evidence!
