Inconsistency costs Manor again
Birmingham League Division Three
1st XI
Aston Manor 132 all out
Penn 133-3
PENN WIN BY SEVEN WICKETS
After last weeks excellent performance, where only the rain prevented a comprehensive victory, Manor again showed their inconsistent form as they slumped to a 7 wicket defeat against Penn at Church Road.
After being asked to bat first only Clement Smith (26) showed any real resistance against the new ball bowling of Dale Quinney (3-28) as the hosts slumped to 52-4. A promising partnership between Peter Evans (38) and Brinder Phaghura (17) threatened to haul Manor back into the game, but once they were both dismissed in quick succession the innings fell away in the face of some fine spin bowling from Richard Brooker (6-29) as the hosts were finally bowled out for a substandard total of only 132.
Some fine early seam bowling by Aurell Kirnon (2-12) gave Manor hope, and when Armadeep Sonkar reduced the visitors to 40-3 an unlikely victory did seem possible. In these circumstances every chance must be taken, but Manor missed three early opportunities to break the match winning partnership between Adam Quinney (28no) and Staffordshires Daniel Bassett (70no) as the visitors ultimately coasted to an emphatic victory.
