Great win for the Sunday 1sts
With wily old fox Woody otherwise occupied at work, Darren Hartson (sorry Baker) took over the reins and led the mighty Manor Sunday XI to another win which keeps them in pole position in Lichfield League Division One.
Playing away at Walls new ground at Lichfield Friary, Manor batted first on a difficult track and totalled a very credible 177-8 from their 40 overs. In conditions very alien to an Indian batsman, Armadeep Gary Sonkar (46) was very impressive with his timing on such a slow wicket, as he laid the platform for a competitive total. The ever improving Scott Bryson (33) supported him well along with another couple of Manors Minors Brinder Phaghura (20) and Jack Hobbis (20).
With the exception of J. Caddick (52) the Wall batsmen could not cope with the accuracy of Manors bowling and were dismissed for only 127 leaving the visitors winners by 50 runs. Shaun Carroll (1-5) bowled a fine miserly opening spell and ‘Gary proved useful with the ball as well picking up 3-14. However, the main damage was done by the batsman, turned captain, turned bowler Dazzler Baker (4-21) who the press were informed was totally unplayable!
Yet again a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon where Manors younger players had the experience of playing with, and learning from, not only our overseas professional but also seasoned pros like Darren and Rimmer!
Well done to all involved in another fine win.
