First loss of the season to Four Oaks Saints

Warwickshire Premier League
1st XI
Aston Manor 248-9
Four Oaks Saints 249-5

A completely inept performance in the field saw Aston Manor lose their first game of the season and resulted in them falling 25 points behind League leaders Bedworth.

On a good Church Road wicket, and despite a solid innings from Kameron Zaman (38), Manor found themselves in early trouble against some fine bowling from West Indian pace man Carleon Brome (4-49). Shaun Findlay (78) was again in excellent form, and led the hosts recovery in an impressive partnership with Peter Evans (33). Receiving support from skipper Jason Furnell (15no), some late explosive hitting by Imran Khan (41, including five sixes) saw Manor close on an apparently competitive total of 248-9 from their 50 overs.

A steady opening stand between Kiwi Carlos Prowse (46) and George Westlake (31) gave the visitors a solid platform to build their reply from. Manor were guilty of not taking early opportunities to dismiss Prowse, but far worse was to follow as they proceeded to waste at least four good chances of removing match winner Tom Wright (126no). Wright took full advantage with a superb aggressive innings, but Manor’s injury hit bowling attack were badly let down by an unusually poor performance in the field as the visitors cruised to an ultimately comfortable victory. Hopefully this will be a one off aberration as Manor must return quickly to winning ways to keep their hopes of promotion alive. Never has the phrase ‘catches win matches’ rang so true!
