Dismal Manor Performance

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Pershore 248-6
Aston Manor 117 all out
PERSHORE WON BY 131 RUNS

A dismal performance at Church Road from Aston Manor saw them slump to their heaviest defeat of the season against promotion challenging Pershore.

On several occasions this season Manor can point to lady luck not being on their side, but this was definitely not the case on this occasion. Their performance was quite simply not good enough.

Things had started so differently though as some fine bowling by Imran Khan 3-63 contributed to the visitors being reduced to 130-6. Manor could not press home their advantage though and a splendid partnership between Adam Wiffen (110no) and Taylor Pugh (54no) saw Pershore close on 248-6. Byron Wyngard (1-24), Shaun Findlay (1-34) and Phillip DeFreitas (1-52) grabbed the other wickets.

On such a good batting track Manor should have had a reasonable level of confidence in chasing down this total, but unfortunately confidence is not an item that many of Manor’s batsmen possess at present.

Tom Caulfield (36) showed commendable application and George Findlay (24) some brief attractive stroke play, but to be bowled out for only 117 in these conditions was very disappointing. Matthew Brace (4-23) was the pick of Pershore’s bowlers.

The half way point of the season has now been reached, and Manor travel to bottom placed Whitchurch on Saturday finding themselves also in the relegation places. The turnaround in form and results must start there!
