1sts Finish With A Loss Vs Wombourne

Manors inconsistent season came to an end with another narrow defeat against already promoted Wombourne in a low scoring game on a difficult Church Road wicket.

After the loss of two very early wickets Peter Evans (26), Chris Whittock (22) and Andrew Forman (19) batted sensibly to try and get the hosts a foothold in the game against a very impressive bowling attack. However, after recovering to 83-4 Manor then lost their last 6 wickets for only 11 runs to finish on a disappointing 94 all out.

Despite an early wicket from Deepak Chhabbra (1-14), the visitors appeared to be cruising to victory before some fiery bowling by Christi Viljoen (4-34) and Shozab Haider (2-27) saw them reduced to 66-7. Unfortunately a crucial catch was spilled at this stage and Wombourne were able to recover through Liam Hughes (18no) and Dale Quinney (13no) to win a tight game with 3 wickets to spare.

The club are already on the lookout to strengthen the 1st XI squad for next season, but great credit must go to the youngsters who have battled through a very tough time to ensure that Aston Manor retained their status in Division Two of the Birmingham League.
