1sts end season in style
Warwickshire Premier League
1st XI
Aston Manor 291-6
Standard 182 all out
ASTON MANOR WON BY 109 RUNS
Aston Manor ended their season in style at Church Road with a comprehensive victory which sees them finishing in 5th place in the Premier League.
The second half of the season saw a major improvement in Manor’s performances and results, but unfortunately their poor start prevented any hope of a late charge for promotion.
With such a turn-around of players it was always going to take time for the team to gel, but a major factor in the upturn in fortunes was the acquisition of Danial Chaudhry from Walmley.
He gave Manor’s talented but erratic batting line up the focal point from which to build large winning totals, and this was again evident on Saturday.
His assured knock of 85 provided the base for a consistent batting display which saw the hosts amass 291-6 from their 50 overs. David Yeend (51) has also had an encouraging debut season, and there were useful contributions from Ibbat Thaman (34), Russell Guy (30no), Sahal Malvernkhar (27no), Recordo Gordon (26) and Adam Nevitt (22) in Manor’s imposing total.
The visitors were never in contention as an aggressive spell from Clement Smith (6-53) left their top order batting in disarray. Manor could even afford the luxury of not bowling Recordo Gordon (2-4) until late in the proceedings and with Ibbat Thaman and Connor Woakes each also taking a wicket Standard were finally dismissed for 182 leaving the Perry Barr men as comfortable victors.
