Chris Whittock Next For England?

Aston Manor opening bat 16 year old Chris Whittock has been invited by David Graveney to trial for the ECB pathway to England Under 17s at the ECB training HQ. The trial will last 2 and a half days and allow the England setup to see the top under 16s in the country perform.

Out of all the U16s in the country only 60 have been invited to the development trials where all players will be tracked and monitored over the coming seasons.

This is a tremendous opportunity for Chris, and further evidence that Aston Manor Cricket Club gives great opportunities to talented youngsters to progress within the game. Although this is Chris’ first season of senior cricket at Church Road, he has always had youth involvement having developed through the equally impressive youth set up at nearby Aldridge Cricket Club.

Chris celebrated his inclusion with a magnificent 78 for Warwickshire U16s against Leicestershire at Lutterworth CC in a two day game. He batted very sensibly up to close of play on Monday to finish on 47 not out, pushing singles against tight spin bowling and clever field placing. However at the start of play on Tuesday coach Errol Simms gave Chris licence to thrill scoring a further 31 runs off 15 balls with some magnificent powerful stroke play before being caught on the longest boundary for 78.

This fine performance earned Chris a place in the up coming two day game for the Under 17 team against Nottinghamshire.
